Anti-Racism Statement
At Root Awareness, we commit to Anti-Racism and DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion).
While knowing we have so much further to go, we understand that dismantling white supremacy and heteropatriarchy is necessary for a true and just ecological transition.
We are committed to doing the work to heal white supremacy in ourselves as well as in our organization and leadership.
Our commitments include:
Scholarships available for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in our group programs.
A commitment to uphold community standards that seek to create a safe space for BIWOC in our programs
Doing the research and inner work to understand our own ancestry, lineages, and nature - based ceremonial practices.
Ongoing personal work to unpack our own privilege and dismantle white supremacy and heteropatriarchy through books, trainings, collaborations so that we can hold a safe space for BIWOC, queer, non-binary, and trans people.
Conversations about race and privilege in our programs are prioritized and welcomed.
At Root Awareness, we understand that our outdoor programs include a level of physical ability that is not accessible to everyone. We are committed to providing local accessible nature-based workshops to those who cannot attend our backcountry adventures.
The online portion of our leadership program is available to those who are not physically able to participate in the backcountry.
We recognize that these commitments are a work in progress, and undoing internalized and collective systems of oppression is a lifelong journey.
