A River’s Body
The River has full permission to move forward on an ancient geographic timeline.
Sometimes flowing gently, other times violently.
Cutting and carving through ever-changing landscape.
Dancing swiftly or silently through trees, meadows, rocky canyon.
Water pours from rapid
into cold mountain lake
into salty vast ocean.
Go with the flow they say.
Smooth. steady. surrender.
Words of River’s wisdom do not shake this quiet tremble inside my human body.
Fear, paralysis, grasping of sturdy boulders I have known and leaned on to survive this modern world.
Earth, please teach me the middle way.
I want to be this body and to be the River
